Affiliate marketing - Is yours the right personality?

There are virtually no age restrictions for online affiliate
marketing. No particular educational requirements, no geographical
boundaries and no time limits. In fact there is absolutely nothing
to stop anyone giving it a go. So why do many of those who start
drop out along the way?

Affiliate marketing is a wonderful way to spend one’s working life but it is
not a bed of roses. Like any business it requires a great deal of effort to
succeed. Obviously some people do better than others so lets take a look at the
personal attributes that are most likely to succeed.

All you need is a computer, an internet connection and something to promote.
No stock, no premises and no staff. Its an ideal one person business. The
chances are  you wont have anyone to bounce ideas off, help in decision
making or help with motivation when the going gets tough. It will all have to
come from you.

You'll need to invest both time and money upfront. Generally it takes around
6 to 12 months to really see results.  Setting up an online affiliate
marketing business may be cheaper and faster than an offline business but for
making a success of it there are no short cuts.

Remember there is no reporting to a boss no timesheets etc. Time management
is entirely your responsibility so you'll need to be self disciplined and an
independent worker. Another consideration is that your working hours are spent
interacting with a metal box and if that's not your idea of fun maybe think
twice before getting involved.

Would you enjoy working for yourself? Are you prepared to take a risk? - as
with any business venture there is a degree of risk involved so if you are risk
averse this might not be your best bet.

A hard worker is more likely to succeed than someone who is isnt.Self
confidenceis another plus. You need to believe in yourself . You need an
overdose of faith in your abilities and passion for the task at hand.

Ask yourself the following:

  • Are you someone who knows what you want and won't stop short of
    getting it?

  • Do you live the dream?

  • Have you the determination to convert the dream to reality?

  • Do you have a vision of the successful outcome?

  • Do you believe you will succeed?

  • Do you approach life with a positive attitude, general optimism and a
drive to succeed in whatever you get involved with?

  • Are you teachable, open to new ideas and willing to spend lots of
    time reading and learning?

  • Are you a goal setter?  Can you make a plan and stick to it

  • Do you recognise the need for patience, persistence and endurance

If there were more positives than negatives in your answers the signs are
good.

People who are less likely to succeed are those who are half hearted about
the goal, cannot make a plan and follow it, are prone to jumping from one
project to the next or multitasking to the point of losing focus. They are
normally not totally committed.

Some people come up with great ideas to improve their lot in life only to put
them on hold for the right time. They allow logic or advice from friends to
raise doubts and limit progress. Warning lights should be flashing for anyone
attempting this as an emergency debt fix strategy. Without adequate spare funds
to invest its going to be very tough.

Whilst some of the above could be acquired skills, if the basics are lacking
the chances of success are not great. However do we really know what we are
capable of until we put it to the test?
